Both the M60i and the Alpina XB7 are powered by twin-turbocharged V8s producing 523 and 631 horsepower, respectively. As far as speed goes, those engines put the X7 in the sports car category. The M60i can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while the Alpina can do the sprint in 3.9 seconds. There's also a nice growl from the V8 when you step on the accelerator.
All three engines are mated to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The X7 earns very good fuel economy ratings among large luxury SUVs. The base xDrive40i gets 21 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The V8-powered M60i and Alpina XB7 models aren't particularly fuel-efficient, with city/highway estimates of 16/21 mpg and 16/20 mpg, respectively.
